N.Z. ASSOCIATION
The meeting of the New Zealand Rifle Association commenced on Tuesday, Miss Hislop, (daughter of the owner of the land on which the meet-; ing is taking place), firing the firstj shot, and narrowly escaping making aj bull's eye. She was loudly cheered; and presented with a souvenir of the occasion. The Wellington Match (not; counting for the belt), 200, 500, and 600 yards, was finished about 5 o'clock. The following are the principal prizetabers:— G-unner Weir, Thames Navala, £8 97 Sergeant-Major McCallum, O Battery Auckland) £6... ... 94 Private McCarthy, Waikari Rifles, £5 93 Sergeant Laverty, Christchurch Guards, £5 92 Sergeant Perry Alexandra Cavalry, 92; Private Scott, Hon. Reserves, Christchurch, 90 j and Private Kruse, Wanganui Rifles, 89 each took £4>. G-unner Kelly, A Battery, Auckland, 89; Private Bunting, Wellington Guards, 89; and Gunner McGregor* I Battery, Qamaru, 88, each took £3. Bombadier Webster, A Battery; Private Cameron, Reserves; Private Ballinger, Wellington Guards; Private Wakelyn, Christchurch Reserves, took £2 each with 88.
During the progress of the match a young man named Fredericks, of Dunedin, who was marking in the trenches had his finger lacerated by a bullet splinter.
