LABOR QUESTIONS.
London - , Jan. 15. The A malgamated Society of Bailway Servants has forwarded £3OOO to asiiist the strikers at Edinburgh. The strikers stoned a locomotive conveying police to Carntyne, where a disturbance has arisen, and one constable waa severely injured. Free sailors shipping on board the Aorangi and Merkara have been brutally assaulted by pickets. The violence o£ the railway strikers is increasing, Tampering with points, attacks on free laborers, and attempts to wreck trains are frequent; The English Bailway Companies urge the Northern Companies to resist, fearing that a surrender on their part will entail a strike on the English lines. The authorities of Glasgow are likely to proceed against John Burns, for advising the strikers to put a little more “ devil ” into the fight. Jan. 16. The Amalgamated Society of Bailway Servants has sent a second donation of £3OOO to assist the men on strike in Edinburgh. Pams, Jan. 16.
One hundred and eighty-six ont of 400 workmen’s unions in France advocate the adoption of the eight hours system without oyertime, and with other modifications. Sydney, Jan. 16.
'I he Secretary of the Shearers’ Union has requested a conference with the Pastoralists’ Union, believing the whole difficulty can be easily and amicably settled. Auckland, Jan- 16.
Six puddlers employed at the Onehunga iron works have struck work, demanding a 20 per cent, advance on their wages.
IRISH AFFAIRS. London, Jan. 11. The Daily Chronicle elates that Mr Parnell retiree from the leadership of the Irish parly, and that Mr Jnetio McCarthy, who w*e appointed leader by the eecedere, will remain at the head. The "Times states that bailiffs are destraining largely on shops in New Tipperary, and that the tenants, who are frantic at the action of the landlords, condemn the cowardly and cruel treat* meat practised by the latter under the name of Nationalism. Mr Healey is forming an Irish National Federation, to combat the influence of the branches of the National League established by Mr Parnell. The fund for the relief of families in Ireland now amounts to the earn of £25,000. _ DR, KOCH’S CURES. Bbblin, Jan. 15. Dr Koch states that the sndstance of his lymph is pare generated tuberculosis bacilli, or from 40 to 50 per cent, on a a strong solution of glycerine. He declares it a derivative from albumen not toxalbomen. Professor Koch is much annoyed at the importance the Emporer attaches to the criticisms on his remedy, and visits Egypt until the Koch institute, which it is proposed to establish in Berlin is begun.
