TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

From the Department of Justice, drawing attention to section 13, subaection’7, of the Licensing Act, 1881, which provides that in case any district shall fail or neglect to elect a Licensing Committee at the time appointed the Governor shall in such case appoint the same. The necessity of local bodies attending to the matter was emphasized.—Eeceived. From Miss H. R. Wethy, on sanitary subjects.—Attended to. Ihe overseer’s report was to the following effect: — Some delay had been experienced in starting the asphalting contract owing the difficulty of obtaining a section for mixing on, etc. A hope was expressed that there would be no difficulty in getting the contract through in specified time. Notices re payment of nightsoil rate bad been handed to the post master and clerk of court, and the jEormer had since been settled, Fifty collars had been obtained from Mr JS. H. Brewer for the current year. He asked for some definite instructions re the registration of dogs for the-ckrrent year with the view to ©nfoicing the same. Some further precautions would be necessary to prevent the straying of cattle, etc., on the roads. The repairs required to drain in Mr McLeod’s back premises had been properly carried out, and the nuisance completely obviated. One truck load of pipes as ordered from Messrs Fisher and Co. having proved insufficient to complete drain through section 54, he awaited instructions of the board to obtain farther supply. The 9in pipes were still in stock. About 260 feet of pip© would complete drain to junction with main drain, or 200 feet to eastern boundary of section 54. The removal of telegraph posts to kerbicig had been completed, and one lamp post would also require removal. Mr Hopkinson was correcting the line of fenced boundary footpath on section 54. Some alterations were necessary, and he had, recommended Mr Hopkinson to wait upon the board, and explain what was required. Owing to a difficulty in obtaining tar in Timsru an application had been made to Ashburton for some. It was decided to obtain a truck load of pipes for the drain at the back of the Star Hotel, On the motion of Mr Clinch seconded by Mr Storey it wa's resolved—“ That the owners of all dogs not registered by the Ist of February be prosecuted according to law and that Mr Pilbrow be appointed registrar.” INTEEVIBW. Mr Hopkinson waited an the board to auk that he might be allowed to fill in iat the corner of the section near the Star Hotel. He would fill it at * six pence per yard, and about 80 yards would fiijl ■ it.—After Mr Hopkinson had retired the members went to view the work asked for, and after returning to the room it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Clinch, to give Mr Hopkinson £2 on condition that he did the work to the satisfaction of the chairman and overseer. Mr Storey suggested that pressure should be brought to bear on Mr ’Rhodes to get an Act passed to exempt the town board from paying county rates. He moved that Mr Coira interview* Mr Rhodes on the subject.—The motion was agreed to. The meeting then terminated.
