AUCTIONEERS’ REPORTS. TIMARU. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight as follows : Horses—Our entry at the Timaru Horse Bazaar on Saturday was composed 6f a much better class of draughts thin we have had for some time back. Competition was brisk, and prices realised highly satisfactory to sellers. Medium to good sold at from £l6 to £25 ; inferior,, £lO to £l4 Hacks and light harness horses: Those offering are not good enough for present requirements, hence there is but little business doing,
Sheep—l he long-lopked-for and much-required rain which came with the, first of the year, has .given the pastures a fresh start, and in consequence the price of stores is considerably firmer. For fat sheep and ■lambs the local trade is fairly good, and Tor freezers we are offering extra good ■values delivered at the works. At ! Pleasant Point, on the sth inst., we Isold for various owners 4-tooth maiden ■ewes and Wethers at 12s, 10s 3d, 9s 9d, !9s, arid ; 8s lOd ; lambs; 9s 9d. At Wash dyke We* sold 600 4-tooth wethers iarid ewes at 10s 9d, and privately 1800 wethers and ewes at quotations.
Cattle— The ’demand for 2 and 3-year-old stores continues brisk,’but only a few are offering. At Pleasant ’Point’we sold yearlings at 15s to 17s, 2-year-olds at 27s 6d to 355. Fat cattle are only wanted for local requirements, and to meet these we have sold 25 head Steers : and heifers at equal to 17s per 1001 b. Sheepskins—We have disposed of 8265 pelts arid lambskins at full values*
ENGLISH MARKETS.
London, January 8.
Daily butter, ex Coptic, from New Zealand, realised from 84s to 96s per cwt.,-and factorv made, from 106 s to 112 a.
Jan. 9.
For New Zealand wheat on passage sellers are asking 37s 6d* but buyers will not give, mbre than 375; Canterbury mutton 4■ 14163. Wellington ditto, 3 3-16 d; Canterbury lamb, 4fd.
Coloniil oats, fine quality, average 26s 6d,
JBeana, 31s 6d. South Australian wheat, 395, market firmer.
Sugar, best German beet, 12s 4Jd; Java cane, 15s. No. 1, best Scotch pig iron, f.0.b,, in Clyde, 46s 6d. By the 8.M.8. Coptic a.quantity of butter shipped by the New Zealand Dairy Association was received. This realised from 112 s to 115 s per cwt, but a few choice kegs brought 118 s.
