ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.

Auckland, Jan. 2. A gum digger, named Jas. McG-ratb, was found drowned in the Kaihu Creek, near Dargaville, to-day. He is supposed to have missed hisf ooting, and faUen in. The place where the body was found is described as a regular mantrap.

A man named Edwin Cook was fatally injured at Ellerslie racecourse to-day after the races, when the people were leaving, Some horses attached to a 'bus bolted from among a crowd of persons. Among them was Cook, who was struck by the horses and the pole of the 'bus, and injured internally. He was taken to the Hospital, where he died to-night. Cook arrived in the colony from England only a few weeks ago. Wellington, Jan. 5.

A chemist at Palmeraton North, named Williams, was found dead in bed yesterday. As he was known to be in the habit of taking morphia it is supposed this had something to do with his death. Jnteecaegiel, Jan. 4.

A fatality occurred last night to a driver of the last car from Gladstone named Aspray. The night was very wet, and as there was no one on the platform with him how the accident happened is unknown. He had a habit in bad weather of sitting sidelong on the splash board, and it is supposed that he dropped the reins, and fell over in an attempt to grasp them, The car wheel bad gone over his jaw, and throat, and he must have died instantly. The accident wan not discovered till the horses ran into another car shunting into the stables. Aspray was the son of a widow, and was extremely popular. He had been in the service since it started eight years ago, Jan. 5.

Mr Henry Manders, formerly representative ot the Lake Wakatipu district in Parliament, died suddenly this morning.
