ST. SAVIOUR'S SUNDAY SCHOOL.
The distribution of priaes in connection with the above echoo! took place on Sunday last at St. Saviour's Church, Temuka. The church was quite crowded for the occasion, and a number of the parents were present. After the usual hymn and opening service the Rev. T. A, Hamilton delivered a brief address, in the coarse i, of which he said that he thought the time a most suitable one for the ceremony that was about to take place. While holy memories of the maijger and the Bethlehem birthday were fresh in their minds, and the echo of the angel song still in their ears, it was good to think of children and of their training. The care of the young was a solemn charge committed to the Church. 'lhis should be specially remembered when so much stress was on secular education. The day school no doubt furnished them with such information as was needed to help them to fight the battle oi' life, but at the Sunday School they learned to conquer evil, and fixed Christian principles in their hearts. It taught them to know what it was to act on principle. The speaker then referred to the self-sacrifice of the teachers who gave up much of their time to the school. They were not all skilled, but all came" with loving hearts, and this the children seemed to appreciate. It was a good thing to have a definite system of training. It enabled the teachers to inculcate the principles of Church teaching, and children left, the school and became good church-men and women, and ready to fight pro aria et focis for their altars and hearths. In this connection he was proud to see that the standard system he had inaugurated was now adapted in the principal Sunday Schools in Canterbury. To the parents he desired to return hearty thanks for the regular manner in which they had allowed their children to attend the school, and also for the home influence exercised, The prizes to be distributed depended largely upon attendance, and this the children should bear in mind. In conclusion he thanked the superintendent, Mr Jiobt, Pinckney, and teachers for their servicer during the year, and also Mr and Mrs Herbert for special prizes, which bad been allocated as " long distance " prizes and would be awarded to those who, living a long distance from the school, had succeeded in making the highest number of attendances.
