Auckland, Dec. 15., Fredk. Clever Webbe, of Webpe Bros,, doing business in Auckland as auctioneer and mining agent, was arrested on a charge of uttering forged valueless cheques for £25, purporting to be signed by parties unknown. Three girls, named Laydor apd Lake (2), charged with stealing clothes from a tailor named Muran, were before the court to-day for sentence, and admitted to probation for six months, the parents finding securities of £25 in each case, and paying the value of various losses. With three others younger than himself he was out for a holiday, and after dinner all went into the water for a bathe, just above the railway bridge. Curtin was the only one who could swim, and he, suddenly getting into deep water, lost his presence of mind and was drowned. His companions were unable to help him.
