Auckland, Dec. 15., Fredk. Clever Webbe, of Webpe Bros,, doing business in Auckland as auctioneer and mining agent, was arrested on a charge of uttering forged valueless cheques for £25, purporting to be signed by parties unknown. Three girls, named Laydor apd Lake (2), charged with stealing clothes from a tailor named Muran, were before the court to-day for sentence, and admitted to probation for six months, the parents finding securities of £25 in each case, and paying the value of various losses. Masteeton, Dec. 16. A boy named William McGruddy was killed at Mangaohoe yesterday by falling off a gate. , , Wanganui, Dec. 16. Harry Avery, employed at Duncan Cameron’s farm, Wangarehu River, three miles from Fordell, was found dead about 8 o’clock this morning, with a fowling piece .beside him, shot through the head and face. It is supposed he committed suicide. No cause is assigned. G-eetmouth, Dec. 15. An accident occurred at Nelson Creek this afternoon, by which Robert Coll, eighteen years of age, received injuries which are likely to prove fatal. He was working in a tail race when a tree broke across the race and smashed the _ young fellow’s head. He was brought to the hospital, and has been unconscious since. He is not likely to live throughout the night. Cheistchuecs, Dec. 15. It was reported to the police that .Albert Charles, Carpenter, a laborer, 31, ?nd brother of Mrs Hartnell, of Lavington Station, Rakaia, was drowned ip the Rakaia: river on Sunday, and while searching for the body that of another man named Peter Cheyne, 85 or 40, was found. He had been missing for some weeks. Dunedin, Dee. 16. A man named Robert Camming committed suicide at Wairuoa this morning. He was on a visit to his father, and is said to have been in financial difficulties. , A young fellow named Andrew Curtin, 16, was drowned while bathing in the Washdyke on Tuesday last. With three others younger than himself he was out for a holiday, and after dinner all went into the water for a bathe, just above the railway bridge. Curtin was the only one who could swim, and he, suddenly getting into deep water, lost his presence of mind and was drowned. His companions were unable to help him.
