THE ELECTIONS.
SOUTH ISLAND. GERALDINE. The Geraldine election passed off quietly, and there was little excitement displayed daring the day. At the several polling places the votes were recorded for the most part early in the day, and there was little or no crowding at the last. In the evening, m the returns kept coming in, the excitement increased, and there was a dense crowd around the Temuka post office. Everything was very orderly, however, and beyond a few rotten eggs thrown promiscuously by the little boys there was none of the larrikism that has characterised other election!. At Geraldine the election passed otf very quietly, though a good number thronged th* streets. In fact, throughout, the candidates and their supporters are to be congratulated upon the very creditable manner in which the election has been conducted. The result ii a victory for Mr A. E. G. Ehodes by 323 votes. The following are the returns: — Ehodes. Buxton.
