San Francisco, Oct. 18. The Democrats of the Second Otsego district haye nominated Miss Hattie Stephens, of New Lisbon, for School Commissioner. Miss Stephens is the first representative of her sax who has rnn for political office in Otsego Country. Miss Laura T. Moybers, a young lady of twenty-three years, has been nominated by the Democratic Assembly Convention as School Commissioner for Oneida County, First Assembly district. Her Republican opponent is W. D. Lewis, who was elected throe years ago by one hundred majority. It is understood that three million dollars of New York capital has been enlisted in Maine for the building of ajrailroad, forming a continuous line from the Canadian Pacific system to the sea-board and open winter ports. Nathan Willet, a rancher, living near Los Angelos, was arrested on the 7th, and will be taken to Texas to answer for a murder committed over seyontoen years ago, on December 2nd, 1872. Willett is alleged to haye shot and killed a young man named Woodward in Anderson County, Texas, in cold blood. Willet’s ranobe is valued at 30,000d01. Samuel W. Leister, a well to-do young orohardist residing near San Jose, has bean committed to the insane asylum at Agnews. Ho is believed to have impaired his health by long fasts, in which he indulged for the cure of slight or imaginary ailments.
