TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs J. Blyth (chairman), P. Coiro, S. Clinch, G. Mason, and W. Slorey. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows From Mr S. Morrison, notifying that he had sold his property, Lot 80, township of Wallingford, Vo Mr Ja». Blyth, and asking that lha latter’s name might be placed on the roll in respect thereof. From Mr F. b. Smithson, notifying that the rate in respect of house occupied by Mr Fenton was payable by him. From Mr Jas. Granger, as clerk to the Leve's Road Board, asking that he might be supplied with a copy of the board’s by-laws. —Replied to. From the clerk Gore Borough Council, forwarding copy of bylaws, and asking for a copy of Temuka Town Board’s by« laws in return.
From the clerk Waimate Borough Council, stating that his council had not yet compiled any by-laws, but asking for a copy of the Temuka board’s by-laws as soon as revised.
From the Ashburton Town Clerk promising to forward copy of bylaws as soon as revised.
From Mr Knub'ey, on account of Mendelaon’s executors, making application for a right-of-way to premises occupied by Messrs Dann and Roulstoa, aad covering plan of same. —Granted. From Mr E. Cutten, for Mendelaon’s Trustees, asking for a return of Mr M. J. Knubley’e application for right-of»way re Dann and Houston.
From Mr J. Brown, applying for permission to bavo the telegraph pole in front of Mr VaMender’s premises removed a few feet to enable a verandah to be erected. —Granted.
From Mr W. Smith, applying to have bis name pl ictfd on the roll in respsot of sections 319 and 320, in place of Mr W. Sweet, the present occupier.—Mr Sweet consenting, the exchange to be made. From Mr Jas. Granger, acknowledging receipt of a copy ef the by-laws. Frem Mr W. Ziesler, asking that the drains through sections occupied by Mr Franks might be filled in as soon as possible, as the value of sections was impaired thereby.—Resolved ; That pipes be supplied to Mr Hopkinson to fill In drain. From Mendelson’s Trustees and twenty ratepayers, asking that the asphalting of footpaths in Wood and Commerce Streets, and along Railway Terraco be completed, as the same would not only greatly improve the appearance of the town, but add much to the comfort of the inhabitants. Consideration deferred until next meeting. TELEGRAPH POSTS. On the motion of Mr Storey it was resolved to write to the Telegraph Department asking to have telegraph posts removed to the edge of the kerbing. OTEESIBE'S REPOET.
The overseer's report was to the following effectln accordance with instructions ha had cemmunictted with the Property Tax Department demanding payment of nightsoil rate in of Crown properties, or consequent withdrawal of the nightman from his duties. Attention was drawn to the low level of the water-table in Dyson street, with the view to having the same raised so that the surface water might be ultimately *'7,. vcyed to the Vine street dra's, Permission was asked to Irv** material carted sufficient to raise the water-table and convey flood water to Main South road, A portion of the Main South road between Wood street and Dr Hayes’ premises had been repaired during the month Although the regulations with regard to stray cattle were constantly being broken not a single case had been yet brought before the R.M, Court by the officers properly appointed to attend thereto. He drew attention to the discharge from Messrs Whitehead and Son's prgqiiges of stale brine, etc., into the water-Üble, this being an infringement of by-'aw No. 2, clause 6. The offenders had been frequently cautioned, but no notice bad been taken. He had been informed that it was the duty of the
police to searcti out and summon the owners of unregistered dogs, but none bad been summoned, although several unregistered dogs have been kept within the district. He had decided to canvass the district himself and waited instructions for further proceedings. He reminded the board that the surfaceman’s contract expired at the end of October. With regard to the water on Dyson street the matter was adjonrned. Mr McGrath was reappointed on the same terms, Mr Whitehead to be notified that he most not throw water on the street. The eierk to summon owners of all unregistered dogs.
ACOOUBTB. Accounts to the amount of £42 14s 4d were passed for payment. The board then adjourned.
