TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the Temuka Road Board was held on Tuesday last. Present—Messrs Tal'bofe (chairman), 0, Biasett, and G. Woodhead. 1 ; ACCOUNTS. * Accounts to the amount of £l6O 3s 4d were passed for payment. COXBBSPOKDENCE. - Correspondence was read and dealt , with as follows: — ■ From the Engineers’ Department, N.Z. Railways, asking if the road Asked for, extending from Raugitata Island road to south branch of Rangitata river, had been correctly marked on accompanying tracing.—Replied to.
•; From Mr William Stewart, for the Smithfleld Fibre Company, asking for right to cut flax on some of tho roads* —Granted, subject to a small royalty. lV From Mr Alex. Geddes in reference .to a gate on a road.—Eeceived. From Mr A; L. Barker, lemiuding the board of an application he bad made some time ago to have the swamp road on his property shingled. He had since let the land, and the tenants would hare no road to cart grain over unless something was done to it.
From Messrs Collie. Donnithorne, and others in support of Mr Barker’s application. —Tenders to be called for a portion of the work, the overseer to exercise bis discretion on the matter. From Mr James Granger, clerk to Levels Road Board, asking fur a copy ot the Road Board by-laws.—Attended to.
From the Audit Department, applying for the sum of one pound, cost of auditing the board’s accounts.— Passed for payment. A petition was forwarded from Mr A. M. Clark and other occupiers in the neighborhood of reserve 1400, applying fer the shingling of the road from Eolleston’s to Greenaway’s.—lt was decided to have an estimate of the eost of the work prepared, and that as it was a job of special value to the applicants they should be asked to contribute a share of its cost.
INTERVIEWS. ; i Mr M. Quinn applied for the formation of about 40 or. 50 chains of road on Milford Island. The road had been dedicated to the board, but it had not yet been formed. There w«uld be » good deal of carting over it during the grain season. —Mr Quinn having retired.thc board discussed the matter at sothe length, and ultimately it was decided to call tenders for the work, the formation to be half width snly. Messrs Prattjey and Ward applied for pipes or planks for crossings to land at Winchester now occupied by them, it being their intention at once to commence building.—Tho overseer reported, upon the matter. Two pressings would be required, as the land was divided by a big drain. At one place, however, the drain was only * water table. In reply to the chairman the overseer stated that there were already two crossings to the same block of land.—The board could not entertain the application.
/ TENDERS. The following tenders were received for contract No. 33, cleaning flax, &e, from road on Education Reserve No. 1400: —B Roberts, 2s 6d per chain ; M. Lawlor, Is lOd per chain; J. Hamilton, Is lOd per chain. The tender of M. Lawlor was ac. cepted by ballot, overseer's retort.
The overseer’s report was as follows : « To the Chairman,

Shingle repairs hav« been done to the Milford aad Seadotvn Road, Mid ‘o tbe,.Milford and Oreri 80.-r. —Re Mr Qeddes’a applicrtion to have gites *nd fence removed from road 'eau-ng to P*rketson's Crossing: As direc • d, 1 have examine! these gites and ramie enquiries in reference to the fame. Tin- gates are placed across the road at its junction with the road running Lorn L. r idge’s !o kfitphelds, and consist of two 7- eet gates, ■with posts and wire Lorn tin gnle-poste to the road reserve. Mr Mite - 1 informs ’’me that the gatss were pl«c - I there by him with the consent and ;.Hsistanco of Mr Geddes. The road the g sites are on appears to be but very little used.—Re drain on toad through Educ tions! Reserve 938 : 1 have seen £Mr Austin with regard to taking shingle from thio drain
