TEMUKA PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH.

A social tea and entertainment was held on Thursday evening at Temuka, in connection with the above Church, A very sumptuous tea, the gift of Mr Barr, was enjoyed by a goodly number, two tables being filled twice. These were presided over by Mesdames Bryan, Burton, Williams, and Hooper. At the entertainment which followed Mr T. Barr presided. Some excellent choruses were given by members of the Heraldine choir, and several enjoyable solos wese sung by Misses Bskett and Andrews, Mrs Bates, and Messrs Sherratt and E. Logan. A quartette which elicited hearty applause was rendered by Misses Eskett and Andrews, and Messrs 0. E. and T, Sherratt. Duets were sung by Mrs Bates and Mr Duncan, and by Misses Eskett and Andrews. The Misses M. Metson, R. and S. Williams, M. a. Prattley, and Master Metson gave some clever recitations, and readings were contributed by Messrs E. Logan, 0. E. sherratt, T. Barr, and J. Epps. At the close of the programme the Rev. Mr Clement proposed and Mr Metson seconded—“ That a very hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Mr I. Barr for his generous gift of the tea, to the Geraldine choir for their assistance, and to the ladies who presided at the tables.” Needless to say the vote was carried unanimously. An enjoyable feature of the evening’s entertainment was the playing of the Brass Band, who contributed several selections both before and after the meeting. The singers were accompanied on the organ (kindly lent by Mr Duncan) by the Rev, H. Clement and Miss Andrews; Messrs A. and T, Sherratt, Bates, and Duncan also helped with their violins, while Mrs Bates accompanied herself upon the concertina. The gathering proved very successful and furnished satisfactory financial results. Last night the remainder of the good things were placed upon the tables, and the small charge of sixpence for admission drew a fair attendance.
