CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows From Mr J. Lewis, Geraldine road, suggesting that the board should re-form the road from Mr Hawke’s to the cross road by his property, by shifting the bank close by his fence and placing it on the side of the road. This, he thought, would improve the drainage of the road,—The board considered it would be unwise to break the surface of the road in case ot a flood.

Prom Mr J. Burnett, resident engineer, advising the board that he was having ten old rails pointed, and would forward the same. From Mr G. O’Neil, Orari, stating that as the leasee of the racecourse had the road at the Orari ploughed it would look like spite if he (the writer) took any further steps in the matter at present. He would not do so, but would move again when the crop was off. From Mr A. Dunford, one of the board’s surfacemen, asking the board to favorably consider an application by him for Is per day extra, as he had to keep a horse to ride to his work.—ln reply to questions the overseer said that both Dunford and Dickens were ■ compelled to keep horses in order to he able to do the board’s work. Both men had large districts, to look after, audit was absolutely necessary to them. —The hoard discussed the matter very fully, and were of opinion that it was rather hard on a man to have to have to keep and feed a horse for the purpose of doing the board’s work without any extra remuneration. After threshing out the whole question thoroughly it was finally moved by Mr Deßenzy, seconded by Mr Brophy, and carried unanimously—That the board cannot accede to the request to raise the rate of wages, but will allow sixpence per day for horso feed to the two men who have to provide and keep horses to do the board’s work.

Prom Mr S. Breadley, Oran, offering a price for the road now used by him near the Orari. From Mr W. Greenaway, offering to lease the board’s reserves at Dobbie’s creek.—The board oonld not. deal with the matter at present.

From Mr G. Gilbert, Gapes Valley, asking the board to have the flax and manuka cleared from off the road line along his section, No 31,276.—After discussing the application it was resolved—“ That on account of the' numerous demands made for the. boar to clear scrub and flax from the roads to allow persons to grub gorae, the board in future cannot secede to any further demands of this nature.”
