TIMARU. . j Messrs William Collins and Co. report a good demandat their auction on Saturday, for fowl , wheat at 2s, 2s 4d, and 2s fid. One clean line qf 1 broken wheat brought 2s lOd per bushel, feed oats Is 4d do, Is 5d do, derwent potatoes 36s per ton, cheese : id per lb, hams 7d perMb, bacon to fid do. CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGEThe following is the Corn Exchange' report, (per N. P. Meyers, Secretary) j for tbe week ending Friday, October 3rd: — , i The market for all cereals is quiet.l Wheat is taken at quotations, but thbenquiry is somewhat limited. Oaie continue difficult to place—local requirements would appear to be filled,! as there is a slight demand for small parcels of feeding oats. Barley—The season may be said to be over; few transactions have taken; place. ; [Beads and peas—A few lines for export jof the former have changed hands, whilst 1 the latter are neglected, an occasional 1 sale for seed purposes being the ex-‘ ception. Potatoes are being sold at almost any figure. The market is evidently over for this season. Dairy i produce shows but little alteration. 1 Oar quotations are as follow Wheat —‘ Tuscan, 3s fid; pearl, 3s 4d ; hunters, 3s 3d. Oats —Milling, Is 7d; short heavy feed,’ Is 5d to I* fid; long and in-t ferior, Is 3d to Is 4d. Barley—Prime malting, 8s 3d; feedp Is fid to Is Od. Beans—2s fid. Peas—Prussian blues, hand-threshed, 1 8s to 3s 3d; feed sorts, 2s 4d to 2s fid.* Grass Seed Ryegrass, machine dressed, 5s to 5s fid ; cocksfoot, 4ld to J Potatoes —Demerits, 15s to 20a at ! country stations within a radius of 12 miles. Dairy Produce—Unaltered. The above quotations are those paid - ' to farmers for delivery, 'f.o.b., Lyttelton, sacks extra.
ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Oct. 2. ; New Zealand hemp is in poor demand. One hundred and forty balea have been sold at a decline of 10s per, ton. # ; < At the wool sales bidding is spirited.Crossbred and clothing merinos are ; very firm. Faulty sorts are irregulaiv The present series close on the 10th iust. The price of frozen meat remains; unchanged. Oct. 3. | A cargo ot Australian wheat has, been sold at 35s 3d. Adelaide whealt is at 37a fid, but th© market is flat*; Victorian ditto, 37a ; business restricted. New Zealand long-berried ditto, 36s fid ; market also flat. Sugar, German beet, 12s fid, firm ; Java, ditto, 15s; nominal. No. 1 best Scotch pig-iron, f.o.b. in. the Clyde, 53s fid. Oct. 4. . t New Zealand chees® ranges from 30s, to 48s.
