The following fees for licenses were fixed .-—Residents, 20s j boys under 16, 10s; and ladies, 5s per seasonAfter some little consideration it was resolved to issue monthly licenses to visitors for 10s. The action of the Ashburton Society in opening the season on Sept. 15th was discussed and unfavorably commented upon. It was pointed out that such a course was prejudicial to the finances of the local society and would also lead to poaching, as the Ashburton Society claimed the right to issue licenses to
-., fish the Bangitata, which is the' northern boundary of the Geraldine County Acclimatisation Society's district. It was resolved that the; secretary cjmmunicate at once with Mr A. E. G. Ehodes M.H.R., and also the Government, urging upon them to endeavor to secure a uniform date for the opening of the season.; It was also decided to ask the Canterbury Society to support the application: The was instructed =to write to the Ashburton Society relative to their action of last season in endorsing the licenses of kindred societies after theyhad expired by effluxion of time. The secretary drew attention; to the fact that he was unable to obtain for the society the fines! inflicted in the R..M. The Animals Protection Act contained clauses authorising the payment to: Acclimatisation Societies of any fines recovered, and he suggested that the Fisheries Conservation Act should be amended in that direction. It was resolved to communicate with the Government on the subject.
On the motion of Mr Yelvin it waß decided to hold regular meetings of the council on the second Monday in each month. Accounts amounting to £4 18s 6d Were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
The following appears in the Press Parliamentary notes: —" Mr Rhodes is urging the Colonial Secretary to take steps to prevent the fishing season being opened in Canterbury before the Ist October, and has given notice to ask the Government whether the Rangitata river is not entirely under the jurisdiction of the Geraldme County Acclimatisation Society."
