ST. SAVIOUR’S CHURCH, TEMUKA.

The fortnightly meeting of the “ Children’s Guild ” was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, on Monday, Btb Sept. There was a good attendance, ninety-five members being present* The Eev. T. A. Hamilton presided, and opened the meeting with prayer. The chairman stated that eight essays on the parable of the “ Good Samaritan” had been submitted, and were all very creditably done. Their general excellence bore ample witness of the thoroughness of the work done in the Sunday School in the various classes. Three prizes were awarded in the following order of merit: Annie Timpson and Annie Voyce (equal), 1; Edith Lee, 2; Irene Hamilton, 3 ; Lottie Gaze, 4; Lilian Mcßratney, 5 ; Grace Greaves, 6; J. H. L. Hobbs, 7 Recitations were given by Queenie Oldfield, Jennie Fenton, Edith Bryan, Annie Mcßratney, Alice Ardell, Lilian Mcßratney, Irene Hamilton, Annie Nicholas, Richard Lloyd, Fred. Mehrtens, Wm. Mcßratney, and Geo, Nicholas. “ The Fairies Visit,” by Florrie Bryan, Nellie Fenton, Jennie Fenton, Alice Smith, and Tom Fenton elicited well-deserved applause. Two songs, “ Dobbin ” and “ The Little Cocksparrow,” were nicely sung by Effie Thompson. Miss Timpson contributed a very pathetic reading, “The Sister’s Promise.” The programme being ended the chairman announced that Mr Pinckney -had arranged for a magic lantern exhibition at the next meeting. Several games were then indulged in until; 9 p.m., when the singing of the Doxology terminated a most enjoyable gathering.
