TEMUKA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The final “ Ingleside ” gathering of the season in connection with the above popular society took place on Thursday eyening at the Volunteer Drill Shed, Temuka, and proved even more successful than its predecessors. The hall, as usual, was tastefully decorated, this duty having devolved upon Messrs Newbury, Allan, Mogridge, Lawson, Barrett, and Henry, who mast have worked most assiduously. The orderly room was transformed for the eyening into a card room, and here a number of non-dancers amused themselves with draughts, chess, : cards, etc. Dancing commenced shortly after eight o’clock, being preceded by a bag pipe selection by Mr Mabin, and was kept, up vigorously until the small hours, Mr A. Bissett acting as M.O. In the first part of the programme Mr Chalmers sang “ Scotland Vet,” accompanied by Mr R. McLeod upon the piano. He subsequently danced the ■•Highland Eling correctly and with spirit. The “ Black Star ” Minstrels, consisting of Messrs Goodwille, E, Colville, Kroon, Chapman and Elder sang “ ’Way down upon the Swanee Biver,”.m good style, but one or two other vocal items were ommitted from the programme owing to the absence of-the lady who was to have played the accompaniments. In the interval excellent refreshments were dispensed by Mesdames Allen, Mogridge, and B. Smith. Eor these the society are indebted to Messrs A, M. Clark, W. Aekroyd, Swaney, and r Mabin. The President, Mr A. M. Clark, in a speech expressed the pleasure he felt at seeing so large a gathering and intimated that it was the intention of the society to hold a ball on August 28th, ; 'at which, fancy -dresses would . Jbe admissible. He trusted to see a large attendance. This being the last of the social of the season the directors desire to express their-hearty thanks to all who had assisted,in any way in making them a success not only to those who bad taken part in their organisation, but to those, who, by their presence and genial conduct have fostered the interests of a., society which aims at promoting a brotherly ank kindly feeling. The thanks of the society are especially due to MrGK H. Mogridge, the secretary, whose forethought, zeal, and indefatigable care had contributed largely to the success of the gatherings.
