SOOTS OP REPRESENTATIVES. On Friday, PRIVILEGE. The whole afternoon was taken Up with a question of privilege. On the previous evening when Major Stewart’s Dog Registration Bill.was before the House someone who was opposed to it and some of Sir George Grey’s Bills locked a number of of members in the Government whip’s room. When the bell was rung a sufficient number of members was not present, and the House was counted out. Sir George Grey brought up the matter of privilege, and the whole afternoon was taken up with a wrangle over it. . LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. After the Public Works Statement was laid on the table, Mr Larnaoh moved that no fresh appointments be made to the Legislative Council till after the meeting of next Parliament. This was discussed at great length, but was lost, 39 voting against it and 34 for it. The Government can, therefore, make as many appointments they like
COMMITTEE OP SUPPLY. ' The House then went into Committee of Supply. Audit Office—£62ls. Mr Ballance had previously moved to reduce this vote by £I3OO. After some discussion, Captain Bussell agreed to a reduction of £SOO, but £I3OO was too sweeping in character. The reduction of £I3OO resulted in a tie—ayes 29, noes 29. The chairman gave his casting vote with the noes. Mr Seddon moved to reduce it by £950. Carried by 30 to 28, Progress was reported, and the House rose at 1 a m.
