AUCTIONEER’S REPORT.
TIMABU.
Mr E. R. Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending July 19th ; Sheep—Wash dyke Sales: At these yards small entries, which is to bo regretted, as prices at the central market have been exceptionally good. On the 17th inst., we sold 114 fat crossbred ewes and wethers, lightweights, at 16s 4d, and 59 merino wethers, half fat, at 9s 3d. Other transactions —crossbreds 16s 3d, do 14s. —Pleasant Point: On Monday, the 7th inst, there were about 4000 sheep and a moderate entry of cattle yarded. The bulk of the former were specially good and brought high prices. 113 2-tooth crossbred ewes and wethers at 14s lid, 37 crossbred ewes 12s, 22 do at 9s 6d, 40 half-bred ewes in lamb at lls 6d, 160 half-bred ewas at 12s, 55 half-bred hoggets at 10s Id, and 263 crossbred hoggets at lls 9d. Cattle —Very small entries of both fat and stores have come forward at the various sales. The market is getting short of prime beef, and prices are likely to improve. Stores are almost unsaleable just now except at very low figures. Sheepskins and 'Wool-—Owing to the large amount of wool on hand caused by the inclemency of the weather, and the unfavourable accounts of the wool market from London, last Wednesday’s sale lacked spirit, fellmongers operating with great caution, and consequently prices dropped 3d to 6d per skin. Privately and by auction, our sales comprised 2612 skins and 19 bags wool, which brought the following prices : —Factory crossbreds 5s Id, 5s Bd, to 5s 9d, merinos 4s to 4s 6d, best butchers’ crossbreds 4s 6d to 4s 9d, second quality Ss 6d, 8s 9d, 4s, to 4s 3d, country lots selling according to size and quality. A line of splendid merinos sent forward by Mr E!worthy, brought 5s Id. Wool— Mixed fleece 6|d, trimmings 2d lo 4fd. Eat—All on hand seld at late quotations. Hides —Late prices are still maintained. We have disposed of 108 at quotations. Clearing Sale—On Tuesday, the 15th inst., we held an extensive sale for Mr Robert Campbell, at his homestead, Seadown. The attendance being good, everything was well com-, peted for, and fair prices obtained, with the exception of old and out-of-date farm implements.
