Auckland, June 11, Philip Huxtable, an elderly man, was yesterday found dead at his residence at Devonport, Auckland, Wanghjxvi, June 12: Inspector Pardy is up the Waitotara river investigating the reported case of murder by a Maori, who is said to have killed his wife by breaking her back. Wellington, June 12. Mr J. H. Derham, surveyor, has been missing since February 22nd, and to-day the police examined an old well at Mitch elltown, when a body much decomposed was discovered. The boots were identified as those worn by Mr Derham, and as he was heard just previous to his disappearance to threaten to take his life, it is believed that he committed suicide, Oamartt, June 11, A man named John Smart was brought into Oamaru yesterday morning in an unconscious state, suffering from injuries received through being thrown from his horse and dragged by the stirrup, He was taken to the hospital, June 12. The body of John Menzies was found floating in a lagoon here to-day. Mr Menzies was a well-known draper and had been missing for the last three weeks. DuKEDiir, June 12. Hugh Mackay, labourer, of Middlemarsh, died yesterday while in a fit. Deceased had been drinking heavily lately.
