GERALDINE RIFLES.
An inspection parade of this corpß took place on Thursday evening las f Captain H. R. Pearpoint being in command. Lieut,-Colonel Bailey was tbe inspecting officer, Major Moore also being present. After inspection the men were put through company and position drill. At the conclusion of tb«. drill the prizes given by the public and won at the ancaal prize-firing on May 26th were presented by Colonel Bailey. Private T. Baaghen—Two bags of potatoes 15. Private C. Beckley—One set hack shoes 16. Private C. Harding—-flalf-a-drzsn fruit trees (presented by Mr M. Coombs) 17. Private R. Heathy—Half-a-dozen fruit trees (presented by Mr J. 18. Private J. Kennington—Roast of beef and cigarette case 19. Private A, Erskine—Bag of carrots and cigarette-maker 20. Private W. JRae—Three months' Lyttelton Times 21. Corporal H.Baughen—Half-a-dozen fruit trees (presented by Mr S. Chapman) 22. Private F. Prouting—Chair and cake. Special prizes—300yd8, Private Stringer—Album (presented by Mr J, W. Pye) 500yds, Private ft, Irvine—Chest tea (presented by Mr N. Danlop) Highest score ail through, Private K. Irvine—One pair trousers (pre* seated by Mr J. Boughtoo) Lowest score all through, Private F. Prouting—One bag oats (presented by Mr W, S. Maslin). Colonel Bailey also banded to Corporal W. Stonehouse tbe medal won by him at the recent competition of marksmen in the South Canterbury distriet, Tbe medal is of silver. On the one side it has the figure of a mtrksman in kneeling position, taking aim, while on the other it bears the inscription, "Won by Corporal W. Stonehouse, best shot South Canterbury district, 1890."
