GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this board was held yesterday. Present Messrs J. Kelland, A. Metcalf, and K. fjrophy. An apology for non-attendance, owing to indisposition, was received from Mr F. JR,, Flatraan, and Mr Kelland also apologised for the absence of Mr Deßenzy, he having, as an official of the Church, to meet Bishop Julius at Winchester. Air Kelland was voted to the chair. COBKESJONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows « From the Colonial Secretary, acknowledging receipt of the clerk’s letters, and stating that lire result of the last election had been published in the Qazslle of May 15th last. ‘ * From Sjoqth Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, asking for the payment £94 4s 2d, being the amount doe j by the road board for the half year.—A cheque to be drawn, Prom Mr Hobart Button, Forest, offering to rent grayel reserves Nos.Tf3o and situated in fhe section occupied by himself, and offering £| per annum for the same.—Accepted on >ihe usual conditions.

Mr L. F. Brown, Christchurch, wrote asking the board to substitute for his name on the rate roll the name of Messrs J. and W. Evans for sections ,1244 and 19,481, Wuini Bush.—Messrs Evatiß ! consent to be ' ‘. : ‘ Froqi Mr W, jfcl/Howe, Gapes’ Valley, asking, tlie board to take down the fence aud gale at bottom of Townsend’s Road. He objected to them, as the road was the only one he had to get to his back sections with a dray.—The board had decided at the previous meeting to request lsr Tagg, the owner of the fence to'remove it. Mr J, H, M, Tagg now wrote st Ring that the order to remove the gale hud come unexpectedly, and the gate was necessary to him to keep in his stock. He was now erecting a properly hung 12 feet gate, asked tor the same Ip p 0 allowed to remain till the next meeting of the board. It was decided to inform Mr Howe that the overseer having expressed the opinion that the gate was wall hqng, fbe did not think Mr Ffbwe would be inconvenienced by its being allowed to remain. From Mr T. Hardcastle, asking for Mrs J. Havre's name to be substituted upon the rate roll for rural section 7428 and part of 6659,—Mrs Haxve haying "consented ijo the Irnpster it was agreed to. A 'siinilaf request from R. Tarbottom and Wut. Robertson for sections 22 and 24, railway reserve, Rangitula, was agreed to.

OTEESEEE'S BEPOET. The overseer’s report was read and desit, with as follows ;

■dir, —I have the honor to report for the information of the board as under : The contracts in hand have made fair progress since last meeting of the board. The extension of Donkin’s Road at Waihi Bush has been completed during the month. The road at T. Sugrue’s, Belkeld Village Settlement, has been fenced on the river side with post and wire fence to the satisfaction of Mr Sugrue. I have had no reply from the commissioner in reference to the transfer. Howe’s Road : This road has been made passable as far as Mr Howe’s section, which, I think, is all that will be required until ihe gorse is cleared from the remaining portion of the road. Bridges ; Tenders have been invited for the traffic brid.e atKakahu, and work at Dave’s Bush, Rhubarb. I have obtained a supply of totara planking from Mr I. Jackson. The day.men have been employed on various roads, and in repairing the deck of bridge on Peckham’a Road, the pinking having been damaged by traction engine. Poisoned grain :Is it the intention of the board to supply poisoned wheat, on the same terms as last year? if so, a. supply will be required. Tegg waited on the board in connection w : th the gate and fence referred to above, and stated that he could not at present fence his land whare the gale was. Ho asked the board to allow the gate to rem iin. Ho also presented a petition from four ratepayers in the district asking for the fence to be allowed to remain, ug it was a convenience to them, —Mr Tagg was iofoimed of the resolution mentioned above. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £251 14i 5d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
