A deputation faom the auctioneers waited on the Secretary of Customs protesting against the increase of duty on fruit. Hitherto the importers have paid on oranges 5s per case, on lemons 7a on apples 4s, and the Customs now propose to increase them as follows Oranges IQs, lemons l?s, apples Bs. After soipe dispussjon ft was arranged that the importers should submit t}ie return of sales for the last six months to the Customs, and that in future the duty should b,e paid on the actual realised dpripg that period.
