GERALDINE LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY.

T{ip anaijal meeting of the above society was held jn~ the (remdine Literary Institute on Wednesday evening last. There was a large attendance of those interested in the society and also the following members: —J. Aitken, President, (in the chair) Dr Pish, Eevs. Jas. Preston and E. 1’! Archibald, Messrs H, W. Moore, J Cunningham, A. J. Moule, T. A. E, Hankins, E. Y. Eergusson, and the secretary E. Wilson sfmth. The President made a statement 'of the done during the past year, and a balanpe-sljeet, duly audited, was presented and approved of. Tfye latter showed the receipts to have been £8 2s 6d and the expenditure £2 8s 6d, Balance in hand 14s. EtiECTIOIT OF OFFICEES. The election of officers resulted as follows : President, Mr H. W. Moore; Vice-Presidents, Dr Eish and Mr J. Aitken j Treasurer, Mr R, Y. Eergusson; Secretary, Mr E. 'Wilsoil Smith • Committee, Rev. E. T. Archibald, Messrs Cunningham. should give papers during the session.” —Rejected. It was decided that Mr H. W. Moore should read a paper at the next meeting, and the committee prepare a scheme for the rest of the session, ADDEEBS. The Rev. T. A, Hamilton, of lemuka, delivered an address on the objects and uses of the society. The address was an excellent one and greatly enjoyed by those present. Mr Hamilton was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks, and the meeting terminated. 6
