GERALDING LITERARY INSTITUTE.

A meeting of the committee of this institute wa* held in the library on Thursday afternoon. Present—Major Moore (in the chair), H. B. Webster, W. H. Moore, P. Wilson Smith, A. J. Moule, and H. N, Hiskons. THE lA.TE CABNIVAL, Mr Webster presented the balance-sheet of the late carnival. It showed the proceeds to be £45 2i 6d and the expenditure about £lO, leaving the very satisfactory balanco of 2s 6d. Tho outstanding liabilities of the committee were shown to be about £lO, after clearing off which there will be the nice little sum of £35 with which to purchase new books. The result of the carnival was considered highly satisfactory, and it was unanimously admitted that the present position of the finances was duo to the manner in which the ladies had interested themselves on behalf of the institute, and the zialand energy they had displayed in working up their department of the carnival. The committee fully realised the obligation they had been placed under by the ladies who had assisted with the carnival, and a very special and hearty vole of thanks was accorded to theip for their valuable assistance,

• ACCOUNTS. The accounts due were passed for payment. NEW BOOKS. . H- W. Moore, F. Wilson Smith. ' . '-Hawkins, and H. B. Webster wero appointed a committee to draw up a list of books to be purchased, and to submit the same to the next meeting of (he committee. It was also decided to put up a notice in the reading-room stating that suggestions for new books would be received till May 21st. VOTES OP THANKfI. A/vote of.thanks was accorded to Mr H. Pearpoint for his assistance at the carnival and articles lent, to the Geraldine , nc * for their services, to Mrs Post lot the loan of her piano, to the donors to the girt auction, and to those who had assisted in making the carnival the success it proved. A voce of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting.
