FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA.
Sydney, April 14. All the inhabitants of Bourke are engaged throwing up earthworks to protect the town from flood water. The Darling Kiver is from 16 to 21 miles wide near Walgett. A dam at Brewurrina, 507 miles north-west from Sydney, burst and inundated the town, but no fatalities are recorded, April 15.
In consequence of the embankments which have been thrown up around Bourke the town resembles a fortified place. An electric lighting plant has been set up on the earthworks to enable men to labor night and day. Bodies of navvies are being hastily despatched to the assistance of the residents. An immense body of water is reported to be coming down the Culgoa a few miles above Bourke, washing awah all homesteads on Us banks. It is feared that when the flood reaches the town it will be doomed. Water surrounds Bourke for twenty miles in every direction. Lord Carrington has started for Bourke, the town threatened by flood.
