Melbourne, April 11, The epidemic of la grippe is still spreading. Several members of the Ministry have been attacked by the disease, and at Pert Melbourne one case has proved fatal, the victim succumbing after an illness of four days. A plight panic occurred in the city through telephone wires coming in contact with wires used for electric lighting, and thus causing several incipient fires. The Government having been approached on the subject, they have slated their intention to introduce a Bill for effectually supervising overhead wires. April 12, A cross action has been commenced in the Supreme Court, Mr Horsfall having issued a writ against Andrew Rowan, claiming £3OOO damages for alleged libel and slander. The case arose out of a dispute with the directors of Goldsbrough, Mort, and Company. In January last Rowan served a writ on Horsfall claiming £25,000 damages for libel arising out of the same matter, * Sydney, April 13. Mr J. Thompson, the well-known sporting man, is dead. A match has been arranged between Stansbury and O’Connor for £SOO a side, It will be rowed on June 23rd. Brisbane, April 12. The amount collected in aid of the sufferers by the late floods has reached £4300. As the result of the enquiry into the wreck of the Quetta, the Marine Board have formally notified the Board of Trade that they consider the pilot and i officers of the vessel exonerated from all blame.
