SUENE AT A HOLINESS MEETING.

Auckland, April 8. There was quite a scene at a holiness convention at the Baptist tabernacle last evening, at which a thousand persons were present. After a hymn bad been sung, the chairman, Pastor Birch, gave an address in favour of the dogma of holiness and what is termed “entire sanctification,” in the course of which he quoted from a report of Mr Yarley’s speech at a holiness con., vention on Friday, which he proceeded to refute, more especially that gentleman’s statement in which he said it was impossible for any man to live without committing sins. The speaker got so emphatic in his denunciations tnat at last Mr Douglas rose and protested against such treatment of Mr Yarley in his absence. Mr Douglas was informed that the meeting was a holiness meeting, and those opposed to such views had their remedy by going to another hall, or through the Press. A few minutes later Air C. B, Stone, a deacon of the tabernacle, rose and said Mr Yarley was his guest, and though he loved his pastor he would not sit quietly aud

listen to such treatment of that servant of God by another servant of God. Mr Yarley should have been invited to the meeting, and these things said to his face and not behind his back. Other deacons rose in turn and rebuked their pastor. Then Mr Yarley made his appearance, and amongst applause he made a vigorous replv to Pastor Birch, holding that only the Incarnate could claim the title of Sinless One, and he flatly denied the imputations by Mr Birch, Pastor Birch endeavoured to stop him by giving out a hymn, but Mr Yarley closed his book and joined in it, and when it was concluded went on with his address again. The meeting was brought to a somewhat abrupt conclusion. The scene has created quite a stir.
