AUCTIONEERS’ ItEPORT. GERALDINE. Messrs J. Mundell and Co. report sales for the week ended -April 15th, 1890, as follows : Very large numbers of stock have passed under the hammer at the public yards throughout the district, and it is pleasing to note that prices realised, especially in sound lines of store sheep for breeding and fattening purposes, were satisfactory to the vendors. Our quotations are as follow : bheep— At Pleasant Point yards, on Monday, three-quarter-bred lambs 7s lid, 7s 9d, 7s Bd, to 6s 6d, halfbred wethers 12s, merino wethers full-mouth, 6s 9d, half-bred ewes fullmouth 5s 9d, merino ewes full-mouth, sound, 4s 6d, crossbred wethers 2tooth stores 10s 2d, Lincoln and Border Leicester rams 2to guineas, Lincoln ram lambs 2i guineas. At Geraldine yards, on Wednesday, crossbreds 2 tooth, forward condition, 10s 2d, 10s Id, to 10s, crossbred lambs 7s 6d, 7s, to 6s 9d, crossbred wethers and ewes (strong stores) 9s 2d, crossbred ewes full mouth ss, 4s 9d, to 4s 6d, merino ewes, sound station sheep, 3s 9d, 3s 6d, 3s 3d, to 3s Id. At Washdyke yards, on Thursday, half-bred ewes 8s 6d, crossbred wethers and maiden ewes 2-tooth 10s sd, three-quarter-bred lambs 7s. Cattle—At Pleasant Point, on Monday, cows in profit £4 10s. At Geraldine yards, on Wednesday, fat bullocks lightweights £4 15s, fat cows £3, cows in profit £3 ss, £3 2s 6d to £3, dry cows, £2 to £l, 2-year-oJd steers and heifers £2 to £1 15s, yearlings £1 to 15s, calves 10s. At Washdyke yards,on Thursday,fat cows £5 ss. Pigs—At Geraldine yards, on Wednesday, baconers £1 10s to £ 1 7s 6d, porkers £1 5s to £l, strong stores 16s 6d, 15s, to 14s 6d, small stores 9s. 7s 6d, to 5s 6d.
Skins At our rooms, Geraldine, on Tuesday, we held a sale of butchers’ and station skins, bags wool, etc., which sold at satisfactory prices. timabtj. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight ending Saturday, as follows : & Horses—-At the Timaru Horse Bazaar, our entry on the 29th inst. was larger and more sales effected than for several weeks past, young and sound draughts being in excellent demand. To-day we entered 26 head, but of these only a few were up to medium quality draughts, the remainder light. We sold 18 at for medium draughts £ls to £lB, inferior £6 to £lO, hacks £6 to £lO 10a, ponies, on account of Mr D Mnnm’ at from £4 to £l3.
Sheep—There has been an unusually large amount of business done in store sheep at the various sales held during the fortnight, and prices have ruled high throughout. Bat sheep are in fair demand for local requirements. At Washdyke yards, on the 27th ult., there was the largest entry we have had this season, and sales during the day were brisk. This week brought another full entry, but sales were not so easily effected. At these yards we sold 592 2-tooth crossbreds at 12s 6d, 114 s aged ewes at 4s 4d, 98 2-tooth wethers at 12s sd, 25 ewes at 5s sd, 228 lambs at 7s Id, 80 ewes at 8s Id, 66 do at 6s 6d, 98 half-bred ewes at 8s 6d, 24 lambs at 8s 6d, 40 fat ewes at 9s, 26 do do at 8s 6d 105 tuU.mouth ewes at 5s lOd, 850 ’ewes at 7s lOd, 109 4 and 6-tooth ewes at 8a lid, 72 8-tooth do at 7s 8d 23 2tooth wethers at 9s 6d, ’

' Cattle—There has been but little doing in either fat or stores. At Pleasant Point we sold a few head,of the latter, and privately we disposed of 28 head of prime fat bullocks and heifers. Pigs—The demand for well-grown stores continues, but' weaners are j almost unsaleable. At Pleasant Point we sold 53, viz , 2at 255, 6 at 16s, 3'at Bs, 24s at 11s, 10 at 10s,. 8 at 10s. At Washdyke, 8 at 16s, 4 at 30s, and ■1 at 255. Bkins—At the usual fortnightly sale we sold on account of several vendors, 2262 country butchers’ skins at —half-breds up to ss, crossbreds up to 4s Bd, merinos 2s 7d to 4s, pelts 5d to Bd. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 4. Hides are in poor demand, and in buyers’ favour. The New Zealand hemp market is Repressed. Pair quality, £22 1 New Zealand mutton, 4fd per lb ; Sydney mutton, 4£d; New Zealand lamb, 7d ; New Zealand beef, 4^d. , m, April 5. There has been a general decline of 3d in the English wheat market. The Continental market is dull and the American steady. Sellers are asking J 35s 9d for Australian wheat on j passage, but buyers will not give more than 34s 3d. Tallow, best mutton, 24s 6d to 25s : ditto, beef, 245. New Zealand butter, 965. Cheese, best quality, averages 48s.
