GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present —Messrs W. S, Maslin (chairman), J, Mundell, A. Sherratt, J. Williams, and A. White. COEEESPONDENCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward was read anddealt with as follows : From the Fire Insurance Association, Christchurch, notifying the board that the 25 per cent loading would be taken off all risks within the town district on and after April Ist. The communication was considered highly satisfactory. Members remarked on the thorough success the race had proved itself to be, and its great utility to the public during the dry weather, and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr C. Gr. Tripp for so earnestly and persistently advocating the construction of the race. A copy of the resolution to be sent to Mr Tripp. Mr Mundell was also accorded a vote of thanks for his endeavors to get the work undertaken.

From Mr F. W. Stubbs, asking to be supplied with a memo, of the valuation of the G-eraldine Town District. —Information sent. From Messrs Smithson, Raymond, and Smith, covering leases of section No. 149.—The chairman was authorised to sign the lease, and affix the board's seal. From Constable Willoughby, stating that in accordance with instructions he had looked up all the owners of unregistered dogs within the town district, and that all the dogs were

now registered. Considered satisfactory. From the Rev, Geo. Barclay, asking for Mr P. Kyne'a name to be substituted for his on the rate roll for the section en the cemetery road.—Mr Kyne's consent to be obtained. From Messrs Hallenstein Bros., Christchurch, re fire brigade uniforms and helmets. Mr W. S. Helem, asked the board to assist him in endeavoring to obtain from the Mackenzie County Council a refund o£ the dog fees paid by him to the council's registrar. —lt was decided that when Mr Helem had paid the fees due to the town board the latter would apply on his behalf to the Mackenzie County Council for a refund of the fees paid. A circular from the Harbor Board, dealing with the collection of the board's rates, was ordered to lie upon the table for the present. OVERDUE BATES.

It was decided to take out summonses for rates against three defaulters. LAMPLIGHTING. The contract for lighting the Btreet lamps expiring on June Ist, the clerk was instructed to call for tenders for the lighting, tenders to be in by the next meeting of the board. DAMAGE TO THE WATEE EACE. The fact of horses getting into the water race, and thereby damaging the sides, was brought up, and the committee appointed at last meeting to deal with the race were appointed to take the necessary steps in the matter. TOWN BOABD MAP. It was to obtain a map of the district. ACCOUNTS. Accounts (amounting to £l6 6s 8d were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
