TEMUKA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board took place on Tuesday. Present ■■ — Messrs Talbot (chairman), Bisset, Snell, and Fraser. COEEESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered : From. Edward lleeee and Sons, Christchurch, offering to supply drain pipes at prices annexed.—None required. From the receiver of land revenue, intimating that he had forwarded to the under secretary for Crown lands a voucher for £2O 18s lOd, being onethird of deferred payment and perpetual lease receipts derived during the period from Ist February to Bth September, 1888. From the paymaster-general, stating that the sum of £2 15s 7d, for rates on Crown lands, had been lodged to the credit of the board at the Bank of New Zealand, Temuka. From the secretary to the Timaru Harbor Board, conveying at length a suggestion of that body that the collection of the present Harbor Board rate be handed over to the local bodies, who should be empowered
by Act of Assembly to levy and collect such rate. The circular was forwarded that the board might signify its assent or dissent to the proposal.—lt was resolved, on the motion of Mr Eraser, seconded by Mr Bisset, " That this board concur in the proposal of the Timaru Harbor Board re method of collecting their necessary rates, and accord its support to the proposed legislation to give effect thereto." oveeseee's eepoet. The overseer's report was read as follows: " To the chairman and members—- " Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report for the past month as follows . ! enders have been invited for the work authorised at last meeting, viz. formation and shingling at JSpworth, and cleaning drain, Penny's road. Tenders have also been invited for painting the outside of office, dwelling house, and stable, and are
for your consideration to-day. Painting the picket fence is not included in this work, as the top rail is rotten at each Joint, and is not worth painting. If a tender is accepted for the building, the fence would require repairing and painting, the estimated cost «f this work is £ —, Contract No. 15, shingling part of Stewart’s road, is completed and passed for payment. There are no other contracts now on hand. During the month I have finished the work authorised at the Oxford bridge ford, and other small Jobs have been done, —I have, &c., “ P. Aechee.” It was resolved to have the fence of office property repaired and paintedMr Snell suggested that a piece of sandy road, between Airay’s and the Rangitata, be shingled. —The overseer was instructed to get the same done. TENUEES. The following lenders were received : Contract No. 16—Ee-forming and shingling Epworth road—Hopkinson, 2s per yard shingle, and formation 40s; Pifield, Is 6d per yard shingle, formation £4 16s.—The tender of J. Pifield was accepted. Contract No. 17—Cleaning drain, Penny’s road—C. McAuliffe, 2a per chain ; Gr. Latimer, Is 7d per chain ; T. Gibson, Is 6d per chain (accepted). Contract No. 18—Painting office, house, and stable—J. Cooper, £25 ; A. Surridge, £lB (accepted). This contract was not authorised at the previous meeting, but it being a necessary work tenders were invited so that consideration of the same might be made at earliest date, ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £39 4s 5d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
