ACCIDENTS, FATALITIES, ETC.
Auckland, March 21. I < A boating accident by which three ' lives were lost occurred on Thursday. Mies Lyell, a girl of 14 years, 'Miss Cooper, and two lads named Lyell and Dempsey embarked on a fishing excursion with Captain Daniels, for Kokamatua Bay. On the return journey the boat was capsized by a sudden squall and went down, Miss Cooper with it- Miss Lyell and Captain Daniels, kept afloat for a little while, but became exhausted and sank also. The boys swam ashore, a distance of 300 yards, Wangantji, March 21. The body of the young man Johnston, who has been missing sin'ce Monday, was found today in the river, opposite the gasworks. At the inquest a verdict of found drowned was returned. Deceased was accorded a military funeral. WEllington, March 21. The shed in which was stored the produce of 150 acres of oaten straw, the property of Mr W. Jillet, at Porirua, was destroyed by fire last night. The loss is estimated at above' There are no insurances;' The origin is a mystery. Hokitika, March 23. John Orford, a miner, was found dead in a claim, Kanieri, on Friday night. The supposed cause ia heart disease. Christchttbch, March 21. John Molyneaux, an old resident of Lyttelton, died to-night from injuries caused by his being thrown out of his trap at Pigeon Bay last Tuesday. He was widely respected for his great benevolence. March 23. A man named William Bampton appeared at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, on Saturday, charged with drunkenness, but as he was in an unfit state for his case to be heard, he was remanded for medical treatment. He died in the gaol at 4 a.m. to-day.
Oamaru, March 21. A fatal accident occurred to-day. A. young man named E. B. Olds was holding a gun, which he did not know was loaded, when it went off, killing a child named Charles Lewis, aged three years. The shot struck the child in the throat and lower part of the face. Death was instantaneous. Dunedin, March 23. Bobert Scott, aged seven, son of David Scott, sign writer of Eoslyn, was drowned this morning. Deceased was subject to fits. The discovery of a skeleton in a channel close to the Waikouaiti railway station, points to either suicide or murder. The drain has always about three feet of water in it, but during the recent drought it became dry! Two pieces of iron rail of about 61b each were with the skeleton, and they appeared to have been round the neck of the yictim. No one in the district is missing so far as can be ascertained
