i’he adjourned meeting of the members of the above Society was held at the Crown Hotel, Temuka, on Saturday evenl"K . laß , fc : ,p' e , of the society, Mr A. M. Clark, occupied the chair. Prior to the election of officers Messrs M. Omnn and p . McCaskill were elected members of the society. The resignation of Mr bunt as u member of the council was

received, and Messrs Mann and Yelviu retired voluntarily. On the motion of Ur Hayes,, seconded by Mr N. C. Nicholas

Air M. Quinn was elected to the vacancy on the council caused by Mr Flint’s resignation, and Messrs Maun and Yelviu were re-electeol.

THE SHOOTING SEASON It was decided to conform to tho S ug. gesuona or the conference of deleo-aba ot acc.unatisaMoa societies in Ri 'I' 0 ' ,rttea f,,p opening and offish,* the snooting season tor native game, that is from the Ist April to the 30th Jims, Rah inclusive.

On the motion of Mr Volvin, seconded by Mr Mason, it was decided that there bo

a continuous close season for imported i game. j SALE OF GAME. ( Some discussion ensued as to the dedesirability of fixing a fee for the sale of 1 native game, and it was ultimately agreed, on the motion of Air Aspiuall, seconded by Air Nicholas —“ That the fee for selling native game be £5, as recommended by kindred societies.” RANGER. The chairman drew attention to the ex'eat that poaching was curried on now that the rivers were low and no ranger was employed. He considered it highly necessary to appoint one or more rangers at once. Several members staled that they had received information us to poaching, but their informants were loth lo go into details. Not only was spearing regularly carried on, but netting was not uu- , common. On the motion of Air AspinM l , seconded by Air Velvin, i was agreed to invbe applications fm die position of ranger, such applications to bo considered as soon as possible by the secretary, so that the appuintmeut might be made prior to the opening of the shooting season. financial. The Secretary a ke 1 for instructions as to the disposal of the 2a 6d now lying to the credit; of the society, and suggested that £IOO be pLood on fixed deposit for 12 month?.—Tim suggestion was adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. A long discussion ensue I as to the advisabilty of in'roriuemg mere fish into the rivers. Mr Nicholas would like sea trout introduced, but the secretary thought that to introduce fry r into the rivers would be a useless experiment now th it they were so full of trout. The chairman drew attention to a report that salmon of fair size had been found in the Aparima, and thought it would be a good plan to ascertain from Hie Otago society their grounds for believing their fish to be true salmon. It j would settle the question of acclimatisation and be a guide for the future. _ The suggestion was favorably considered, adcl the secretary was instructed lo write to the Otago Acclimatisation Society and ascertain what evidence they had of there being true salmon in the Aparima, and, if necessary, arrangements be made for procuring one or more of these fish. On the motion of Mr Nicholas, it was resolved—“ That it be a recommendation to the society to ascertain if there are any American trout available, and, if so, at what cost. Should the same be reasonable 1000 to 2000 to be procured and introduced into the Ohapi Creek.” SHORT TERM LICENSES, Air Velvin considered it would be of advantage to the society if licenses to fish were granted for short periods of a fortnight or a month at a fee of from 5s to 10s. Thero were many business men who only had the opportunity of fishing for a few days in holiday time, and it seemed a hardship to make these men pay the full fee. Mr Nicholas thought it would be a good plan to issue 10s licenses from the opening of the season until the 31at and from the Ist of January to the close of I he season. Air Mann objected. Plenty cf men who could easily fish all the season through would watch other men’s takes and then avail themselves of the good water for a few months. The lands of the society would suffer a loss, and confusion micGit ensue. 0 It was decided to leave tho matter in the hands of the council. RULES. It was agreed that some revision was needed with regard to rule 4, referring to the election of officers, etc. The chairman thought that it would be pteferab'e if the officers of the society retired annually and were eligible for re-election, lie was inclined to think that this was intended, but on examination it was found that the reading of the rule only provided for the retirement, by ballot or otherwise, of three members of the council. The question elicited some desultory conversation, and it was decided to recommend the council to amend the rule in the direction suggested by the chairman. HONORARIUM. On the motion of Air Alann the customary honorarium was voted to the secretary for his past services, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks lo the chair.
