THE LONDON SCANDALS. The newspaper sensation of the hour is a London letter to the Figaro, signed by a staff writer (M. Johnson), saying that Broadley, who ran away from London a short time ago to escape arrest, used to take Boulanger and Rochefort to Hammoad's house in Cleveland street. DISASTROUS EXPLOSION IN SCOTLAND. On the evening of January 22 a disastrous explosion occurred in the gunpowder mills owDed by Messrs Hay, Merricks, and Company (Limited), at Roslyn, in the county of Midlothian, by which five men lost their lives and two men were injured —one so seriously that no hope is entertained of his recovery ; while the damage to property is considerable. The mills stretch for about a mile along the valley of the North Esk, and consist principally of small huts, placed at some distance apart from each other. About 5 o'clock, when most of the men had left or were preparing to leave the premises, the district for miles round was startled by a great explosion, followed by another of greater magnitude, and still another. When the dense cloud of smoke had cleared asvay, and it was deemed safe to venture near the spot, the workmen whose progress had been arrested by the explosion made an examination witb the result indicated. The searchers found the bodies of the dead and the the injured men lying in all directions, and in several instances dreadfully mutilated. The explosion caused great consternation in the district. The cause of tho explosion is a mystery.
