MARRIAGE OF PROFESSOR MURRAY.
Professor Gilbert Murray, the young Australian, who* at twenty-four, bas obtained the Greek chair at Glasgow, and published a clever novel “ Obi and Bbamo,” has consummated his good fortune by marrying Lady Mary Howard, the eldest daughter of the Earl of Carlisle. The marriage ceremony was attended largely by the relatives of the bride. Her father—the Lari of Carlisle—gave her away, and she was attended to the altar by the Ladies Cecilia, Dorothea, and Anrea Howard, her sisters ; the Lady Grisedla Ogilvy, her cousin ; Miss Margaret Davies and Miss Bunney, who were followed by eighty girls from the five villages on the Castle Howard estate, Ihe bride’s dress, of ivory white satin,, was trimmed with the finest Limerick lace, of which also her veil was composed. She wore no jewels. The bridesmaids were dressed in white, trimmed with rosecolored ribbons ; and the village maidens added a bright touch of color to the scene by their rose-colored dresses, straw bonnets trimmed to match, and white embroidered China silk shawls. The bridegroom’s best man was Mr Margoliouth, Professor of Arabic, Oxford. The honeymoon was very brief, and within a week the young Professor was back again at his duties.
