GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of the members ] of.jthis board took place on Tuesday evening last for the purpose of coneidering the purchase of uniforms, j etc., for the fire brigade, the list of outstanding rates, and other matters, j. Present—Messrs W, S. Maslin (chairman), N. Dunlop, J. A. i White, and J. Mundell. c BRIGADE REQUISITES. . Several offers for supplying uni- • forms were received, and after careful consideration it was decided to purchase the uniforms from Messrs j Hallenstien Bros., Christchurch at 1 £3 10 per suit. It was also decided to obtain the helmets from the same • firm. j Mr Hughes’ (Timaru) tender was accepted for supplying the belts at j 2s Gd each. ( It was decided to obtain further ( quotations for the supplying of a bell. . A number of small articles required | were authorised to be got in Geraldine. ( I G;cAOw outstanding bates. The list of outstanding rates was next considered. Members agreed that in view of the heavy expense the board had been at in bringing in the water and forming the brigade it was imperative that the rates, etc., outstanding should begot in immediately. In reply to an enquiry, the clerk , stated that all those drawn at the last meeting to be summoned had paid on the following day, and the issue for summonses had thus been obyiated. It was decided to summons right through the list, and, after carefully looking over it, persons were selected as a second batch to be summoned, MISCELLANEOUS. Mr L. Newport having applied to lease section No. 194, it was decided to call tenders for the same. Leave was granted to the Sports Committee to make a charge, not exceeding Is per bead, for entrance to the domain on the day of the sports. Complaints were made of the manner in which the children were destroying the trees in the park by climbing up on them for acorns.—The overseer was instructed to keep a sharp look-out, and to take action against the first boys be found climbing the trees, with the view of stopping such destruction. ELECTRIC LIGHTING. An irregular conversation took place with regard to lighting the town with electricity. Mr Mundell mooted the the question, and it was shown that there was an abundant supply and fall of water which could be utilised for driving tho dynamo without in any way interfering with the supply of water for the town. It was also shown that the board could obtain almost double the number of electric lights than of the kerosene lamps now in use for about the same as that now paid, provided 100 private lights were taken. It was decided to enquire farther into the matter before taking any steps in it. The meeting then terminated. (
