ENGLAND AND PORTUGAL.
Lisbon, Feb. 11. Signor Andrade, a Portuguese gentleman, has challenged the British Consul at Oporto to fight a duel. The dispute arose in consequence of the latter telling the students only to insult Englishmen, not ladies, and if possible to avoid insulting anyone. A patriotic meeting in the Coliseum ' was forbidden through the fear of its leading to outrages. Feb. 12, 1 A patriotic meeting in the Coliseum has been dispersed by the police, and thirty of the principals have been arrested. The feeling against the English residents and England itself continues very bitter. Ihe Government have decided to reorganise the army and also to purchase eight warships. ; ■ Berlin, Feb, 11. The Emperor William exhorts England to bo lenient with Portugal. London, Feb. 11. Lord Salisbury insists'that Nyassa and Masbona lands shall be regarded as British territory, and the remainder of the disputed country delimited in the regular way. Feb. 12. Sir. James Pergusson, in reply to a question in the House of Commons, said that arbitration would not apply to such a case as the dispute between England and Portugal.
