CHRISTCHUROH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday the entries of stock were generally small. Fat Cattle—A small entry. There was a slight improvement in the tone of the market, especially for the better class of beasts. Inferior Borts were again dull of sale, a good namber not reaching owners' reserves, Best beef may be quoted at 14s to i7s per 1001 b and second class 12s to 13s 6d. Dairy Cattle—Best cows made from j £5 to £7 15s, and other sorts were at a similar rate.
Fat Sheep—The entry was made up of a good number of prime crossbred sheep and a lot of inferior merinos. A line of grand crossbred*, from the Peninsula, which were withdrawn at 16s 7d, were afterwards disposed of at prices ranging up to 17s, For all good sheep the demand was exceedingly keen, and from Is to Is 6d a head rise was generally obtained. Inferior sorts also sold much better. Beßt mutton may be quoted at 2Jd, and other sorts from upwards. Among the lines sold were: for Mr A. M. Clark, 32 crossbred wethers at 15s 9d, 21 do at 14s 6d; 69 crossbred ewes at 14s 9d, 27 do at 14s 3d, 59 do at 12s 9d, 30 halfbred ewes at 14s 3d, 39 halfbred wethers at 14s, 35 crossbred ewes at 12s 4d, and 46 do at 12s 6d.
Lambs—There was a medium entry of mostly second-rate lambs. These sold at a trifle under last week's quotations. The pick of the market realised up to 14s 6d a head.
Pigs—The small entry was quickly sold at higher prices than those ruling lately. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday:— Wheat—This market is almost at a standstill, especially in regard to the business being done in milling sorts, a continued hand to mouth demand being the sellers' experience down to the present, and the prospect at the moment is not very encouraging. Small lots of fowls' wheat are being disposed of, but at reduced prices. Prime milling: Tuscan, 2s lOd to 2s lid; best red straw and velvet, 2s 8d to 2s lOd; medium Ito good (nominal), 2s 4d to 2s 6d ; inferior to medium, in small lots only, I 2s to 2s 3d (ex store). Oats—The market still continues flat, no demand of any consequence existing. A little business might be done if holders were to accept is to is 3d for stout bright feed sorts, but beyond this buyers are not inclined to operate. Small lines of milling might be placed, at is 4d to is 5d ; musty and off-colored sorts can only be placed at about 9d to Is (sacks extra). Barley—Nothing doing in this line ; quotations nominal. Grass Seeds—Eyegrass, 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; cocksfoot, 2£d to 3£d. Potatoes Kidneys plentiful at £2 10s to £2 15s. Pigs—3£d. Hams, 8d; flitches and rolls, 6d. Chaff—Best oaten is paid for up to £3 10s ; inferior sorts, £2 10s to £3. Straw Oaten and wheaten, 355. Clover and ryegrass hay, £3 ss. Butter Best salt, 6d, packages extra; medium neglected. Eggs— Scarce. Honey— Cheese—Fac tory, old, 3|d j new, 4|d ; Akaroa, 3£d to 4d. Hides—The market io unchanged. Quotations : For prime heavy weights, 2id to 3d; medium to heavy, 2d to 2id ; light, lid to 2d; inferior, Id to lfd per lb. Tallow—Medium to good, 15s to 16s; infener and mixed, 12s to 14s • rough fat—best mutton, lis to 12s ' inferior to medium, 9s to 10s per cwt' Sheepskins— At Tuesday's sale prices for all sorts were firmer," fresh pelts especially meeting a brisk demand : Dry crossbreds sold at 2s to 7s; a few extra up to 10s; dry merino, Is 8d to 6s 3d; green crossbred*, is 6d to 2s 9d; green merinos, Is 5d to 2s 6d • green lambs, is 8d to 2s lid. Station akiua in bales 5d to 7d per lb. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET. In consequence ef Wednesday next being Cup day the sale will be held on Tuesday, 18th inst., instead. At the Burnside Tarda on Wednesday the following business was transacted :
Fat Cattle—222 were yarded; a few pens prime. There was a very poor attendance of butchers and others, with bidding all through very quiet. Indeed it was difficult to quit anything that was not in prime killing condition. The greater part were sold as follows : —Bullocks, £3 10s to £8 2s 6d • cows, £2 5s to £5 7s 6d.
Fat Sheep—Only 1257 being penned; of these 160 were merino wethers in prime condition, the rest crossbreds—the greater portion being ewes. Sales opened at a shade over late rates, and closed firm at, say, Is a head over last week's prices. Crossbred wethers sold at 10s to 14s for extra; crossbred ewes, 8s 9d to lis.
Fat Lambs—s 42 were penned. There was a fair demand throughout, with a rise in value, say la to Is 6d per head. Best Bold at 8* to 10s 3d ; others, 5a 9d to 7s 9d.
Pigs—Thirty-eight were yarded. These met a better sale, and were disposed o£ as follows;—Suckers, 8s
to 14s; stores, 17s to 225; porkers, 23s to 355; baconers, 40s to 52a. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sxdnet, Feb. 12. Chick wheat—2s 7d to 2s 8d ; local milling sorts, 3s 6d. Oats—Feeding sorts, 2s 2d ; milling, 2s 3d. Maize—local grown, 3s 2d to 3s 3d; New Zealand grown, 3s 3d. Cape barley—--2s 6d to 2s Bd. Bran—7*d. Pollard — l\ d to 7d. Potatoes —local grown, £3 per ton ; Warrnambools, £3 ss. Onions, £4 to £4los per ton. Butter, dairy made, 8d to 9d; factory made, steady at lOd. Cheese, local made, 4d to 6d ; New Zealand made, 6d. Baoon, machine cured, 6d to 7d; hand cured, 6d; New Zealand, 9£d; hams, New Zealand cured, lOd to lid. Melboubne, Feb. 12. Wheat is now in good demand, new crop being quoted at 3s 3d to 3s 7d, and old crop at 4s. Flour, stone made £8 ss, roller made £8 15s, with an upward inclination. Oats, New Zealand sorts, 3b. Maize, 3s 10£d ; Cape barley, 2s 4^d; bran and pollard, lid ; peas, 3s o£d. Sugar—Mauritius, finest whites, £24 15s per ton; Queensland yellows, £24 Bs. Adelaide, Feb. 12. Wheat—Shipping parcels, 3s 6d; flour, stone made, £8 10s to £8 15s ; roller made, £9 10s ; bran, 7id ; pollard, B±d. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, Feb. 11. Competition continues spirited in the wool sales, but prices for poor sorts are irregular. Feb. 12 The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,] 36,000 quarters, and for the Continent 4,000,000 quarters. The American visible supply is estimated at 30,750,000 bushels."
