In reply to enquiries, the clerk stated about £65 was still outstanding for rates, only eight dogs had been registered so far, and no carriage and drivers’ licenses had yet been renewed. Nearly £IOO was due to the board from one source and another, while they were paying interest on an overdraft of £2T 15s, aud the pay-sheet for that evening would be £36 19s 3d. As instructed, he had advertised that all rates and dog fees unpaid by February 4th would be sued for without further notice, but very little money had come in,—Members waxed eloquent over the clerk’s statement, and said it was not just to the ratepayers that they should pay interest on overdraft while such an amount of money was due to them. It was useless to sit there to represent the ratepayers and pass resolutions to summons if they did not go further, and carry out their threats. - Those who were carrying passengers had made themselves liable to be prosecuted by not renewing their licenses, and the board should certainly carry out their by-laws.—lt was unanimously decided to summons all defaulters for rates, taking the list right through, and beginning with those owing a certain amount and over tor next Court day. The list was read over, and seven names selected. It was also decided to take action against thecoach proprietors who were running without a license, if the same were not taken out before the end of the week. The list of unregistered dogs was ordered to be placed iu the hands of the police for steps to be taken. OVERDUE RENT. Messrs J. Fiefield and E.
