MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.
A meeting of the creditors of T. McAuliffe, publican, of Geraldine, was held at the office of the Deputy Assignee, Timaru, on Tuesday. The creditors present were Messrs F. R. Flatman, F. Cullman, A. R. Allan (for Temuka Caledonian Society), and one other. Mr Raymond appeared for the bankrupt. The debtor's statement showed a total of unsecured creditors
£251 Is sd; assets: stock-in-trade and cash nil, hook debts £3O (estimated to produce £2O), and furniture £l2; deficiency, £219 Is sd. The largest creditors were W. G. Neill, Dunedin, £42 9s lid; Wood, Sband, and Co., Christchurch, £96 4s 6d; Temuka Caledonian Society, £23; M. A. Collins, Timaru, £10; James Turner, Geraldine, £l4. The bankrupt, sworn and examined by the Deputy Assignee, stated that he took the Bush Hotel, Geraldine, in May last at £4 2s 6d per week rent. He had then a capital of £lO4. Paid that sum down to Manning and Co , and gave them a bill for £2OO, to be paid in £5 monthly instalments. Paid these for four months. Sold out ten days ago for £290, the sale being conducted hy Manning and Co., under the bill of sale, by his consent. Manning and Co. he understood, paid themselves the balance due under the bill of sale, and also his account for beer, about £43, and were to pay
Wood, Shand. and Co. any surplus from the sale. Had the booths at the Timaru Caledonian Sports, and took between £9O and £IOO for the two days. Paid that away to several people—M. Taylor had £l4, &. Hayes £25 for money lent, and the rest went in cheques,- He was harvesting now for a living. Had a wife and four children. His wife had no property of any kind. Filed because he could get no more credit nor carry on, and Manning and Co. and others were pressing. Neither gave nor got a receipt from Hayes when borrowing and returning the £25 which was lent in September. On the 2nd instant repaid his brother-in-law. Maloney, £lO borrowed from him about a year ago, and on the 15th paid Lizzie Moore £lO for four or five months’
wages. She was to have had 14s or 15s a week. He paid his solicitor £5 5s for filing. His takings had been from 15s to 30s a day. A meeting of creditors of Francis Quinn, gardener, of Peel Forest, was called at the Deputy Assignee’s office on Friday, but no creditors appeared. The debtor was examined by the
Assignee, and stated he had been employed by Mr Acland at £6O a year and food. He had left his family in Tasmania, a year or so ago, and three months after brought them over, wife and five children. He rented a house for them, and found his salary not enough to keep honse on. He had paid as long as he was able. He could make no oiler. Hia debts to storekeepers and bakers amounted to £42 3s 2d ; no assets.
