THE RABBIT DESTRUCTION COMMISSION.

The final report of the 1 International Rabbit Commission has been laid on I the table of the N.S.W, Legislative | Assembly. The report, after review- ' ing the work • of the Commission generally, is chiefly confined to destruction by means of mechanical devices. About 1400 schemes have been examined, and : the final report is prefaced with the statement that after further consideration the Commission have found no evidence to warrant the belief that any known disease can be safely employed to exterminate rabbits, though some may be found useful auxiliaries, and further inquiry into such diseases should be encouraged. Two mechanical methods of many,' which the Commission seem to think as useful as : any are one by Mr Watkin Wynne, manager of the Sydney Daily Telegraph a kind of trap, in connection with which there is also a method of curing captured rabbits; 1 and one known as the Rodier method, which consists in killing all does and allowing the bucks to escape. A very large amount of correspondence from all parts of the world in reference to auggested methods 1 of destruction of every kind has been received. The Commission approve of rabbit proof fencing for'the subjugation of the pestj and likewise are of opinion that mation might be diffused as to the suitable natural enemies of the rabbit that could be introduced, and permission ' should be given in special cases to keep rabbits for experiments in regard to poisons.
