ENGLISH AND FOREIGN. London, Dec. 27. Mr Licht, sugar expert, estimates that the yield of the European beet crop will give a surplus of 681,000 tons. The production during the last three months was 410,000 tons in excess of the same period last year. The Czar of Russia and the King of Portugal ate suffering from influenza. The Czar has had a bad attack, this being the second one. Twenty per cent of the Russian army is affected. The trade in Vienna and some of the German towns has been partly paralysed ; many schools and universities have been closed. Influenza and heart disease was the cause.
