CHRISTMAS CHEER.

The return of Christmas has made very little difference in Geraldine. The business places have mads the usual display of Christmas fare in the way of raisios, figs, candied peel, etc., while the show of novelties and fancy goods is about the same as last year. Messrs Dunlop and Co,, R. H. Pearpoint, J. W. Pye, B, Morrison, and A. Fisher have made the most effective displays. The butchers have as yet raide little display beyond showing some prime beef, mutton, and lamb, the weather being far too hot for anything elaborate in (ha butchers’ line. A great many people intend visitiag the Dunedin Exhibition during the Christmas holidays, so that the town will doubtless be veiy quiet. Iu Temuka, so far the butchers ouly have made any display. Mr Yadender came into bis new shop yesterday morning, and under great difficulties made the most of his opportunities. The workmen were still employed in plastering the front of the shop, from which the scaffolding has not yet been removed. Yet Mr Vallender succeeded in getting up some floral decorations, but his best decoration was the splendid display of be*f, mutton, and bacon which he made. Ho showed grand beef fattened by Messrs Dsßenzy and Lee, and lambs roared by Messrs Woodhesd and Son. Messrs Whitehead and Son have really chaste decorations, consisting chiefly of many artisticallymade wreaths round the shop. They, too, have a splendid display of beef and mutton of prime quality. Mr McLeod had his shop literally smothered in evergreens, while floral wreaths bedecked a shopful of beef, mutton, and Jamb. It ie needless to say that they were of the best quality. Two of bis lambs were reared by Mr John Fitzgerald, who took first prize with them at Timtru Show. They weighed 701 b and 73 b. A aheap weighing 961 b was also bred by Mr Fitzgara'd.
