McCaskcy, of The photos, were excellently taken, every one of the group of 27 children coming out splendidly. It was also stated that the examinars for the sewing were Mrs Aitken and Mrs Gibson. This was wrong, as the examiners were Miss Hill and Mies Byrne, of Geraldine. Milford School.— The annual treat and distribution of prizes in connection with the Milford School took place on Friday last. The day was fine, and the attendance of children and adults large, parents by their presence in large numbers showing their sympathy with the s una. Mr J. Guild, of Trevaana, who presented the prizes at the request of the committee, addressed a few words of advice and encouragement to the children, and was listened to most attentively. Mesdames Guild and S. T. M. Hayhurst kindly judged the sewing, of which some very nice specimens were exhibited. The committee, with Messrs Woodley and Maze, arranged a first-rate sports programme, which wjs gone through with zest, and all appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The proceedings wound up with votes of thinks and cheers for the ladies, Mr «uild, the ceramilteo, and all who had helped to render the gathering the success it proved. The committee wish to tender their thanks to all who • misted iu any way. Boxin« Dat.—The Caledonian Society are leaving no stone unturned towards making the coming sports and concert a great success. The entries for all the events ore very numerous, and capital sports may be expected. In addition to this, interest will be lent to the affair by the presentation of a flag by Mr Quinn. One of the largest gatherings ever seen in Temuka may be expected. The concert committee hava also worked with a will to produce a first-class concert. They i have engaged the best talent obtainable, and spared no expanse iu so doing, A glance at the programme in another column will convince anyone of its excellence. Great preparations are being made to secure seating accommodation, and to decorate the hall in a becoming manner. A new stage has been built, and is already beautifully decorated. The council is established, and eight societies are Affiliated, representing about 200 members. The Bxjckbtb Bihdbh.—A trial of the above machine was held last Friday on Mr Walker’s Farm, W»it#hi. There w»» a good attendance of farmers, who evinced great interest in tbe work of the machine. Mr Anderson (agent for Canterbury), Mr Peroival (an expert), and Mr D. Henry (local agent), were present. Mr Percival did not arrive before 2 p.m., and meantime tbe machine was worked by Mr Walker, who opened a heavy green crop of oats with a sixfeet cut. The machine worked cleanly and well, but it was not until it was properly balanced by Mr P roival that it was seen to the greatest advantage. It then out and lied excellently, and left a beautiful even and clean stubble. The cutting gear is so arranged that it can out low and very close, or be lifted up to cut high if desired. It is apparently strong and durably built, and a very good machine all round. After a satisfactory exhibition was given of its power in the oat*, it was suggested that grass should be tried, ;»url the machine was put into a paddock close by. The crop was light, and consisted of ryegrass, with a slight undergrowth of clever, but the Buckeye cut it splendidly, and to tbe entire satisfaction of all. The following testimonial was then signed by 15 farmers who were present“ I have this day seen the Buckeye Elevator, 6fl out, cutting both green oats of a heavy crop, and also a short crop of ryegraas, opening up the field in both instances with a full cut. The machine was drawn by two horses with ease. The work done in both instances I consider very good." Mr Anderson having thanked those who had attended, and Mr Walker, for bavgiven his horses and land for the purposes of tbe trial, the proceedings came to a close.

The verdict of all who bare used the “Jumbo” brand Baking Powder, is that it makes light, nutritious, and digestive bread oakea, pastry, etc. As the ingredients are of the finest qualities, and no injurious elements being used in the preparation, bread, etc., mads with this powder will keep fresh and moist longer than with any other powder.
