AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly' meeting of the Arowbenua Town Board was held last night. Present —Messrs E. Lee (chairman), A. Frew, E. Yallender, J. Ashwell, and B. Brown. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : From the Levels Road Board, inviting the Board to co-operate in offering in ducements for the destruction of small birds.—The board could not co-operate. From the Geraldine County Council, enclosing demands fer rates amounting to 6s Bd.—To stand over. From the Commissioner Crown Lands in reply to a letter from the Board of Sept. 30tb, making appointment for the e’erk to meet him on October 28th in reference to waste lands. From the Audit Department, requesting that the sura of 13s 4d, cost of auditing the Arowbenua Town Board accounts, be paid into the Public Account, at any branch of the Bank .of New Zealand.— Passed for payment. From MrH. Robinson, applying to have his named substituted on the rale roll for that of Mr W. Slater in respect of section 731.—Mr Slater having signified his consent, the request was ordered to be complied with. CREEK RESERVES. The chairman reported that he, in conjunction with Messrs Ashwell and Brown, had interviewed Mr Baker in connection with the reserves around the creek. They understood, from him that the land would be vested in the board, and that arrangements could be made for letting same for a term of years. The land comprised in all about 18 acres. OVERSEER'S EEPOET. The overseer made a verbal report. No work had been dons during the month. He bad arranged for repairs to a closet at one of the cottages, and his action was approved of. In company with Mr Frew be had visited the site of the bridge, and they had agreed that no suitable bridge could be erected at the cost set aside for the purpose. Mr Frew considered that a light bridge as suggested, if erected at the necessary level, would cost about £25. Then there would be a very steep grade at one side. He was of opinion that the work should be delayed. The board briefly discussed the question, and it was agreed that the work should bo delayed for the present. - BURIAL GROUND.
The question of providing a place for burial of animals that might die in the township was discussed, and it was agreed that the board could not undertake the matter. BATES AND BENTS. A list was submitted of ; rates due and unpaid on March 31st, 1889. The list comprised a number of small items, upon which it was scarcely worth while to expend postage. The clerk was instructed to sue sixteen of the defaulters selected by lot. He was also instructed to advertise that all rents must be paid within one month from their due date or the clauses of the leasee re forfeiture would be enforced and the amounts accrued sued for.
ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £3 16s 4d were passed for payment. The meeting then terminated/
