GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the above board was held yesterday. Present— Messrs F. R. Flatman (chairman), W. Deßenzy, W. U. Slack, and A. Metcalf. A letter was read from Mr J. Kelland, apologising for non-attendance at the meeting, which was accepted. TENDERS. The following tenders were dealt with : Contract No, 299—Shingling Somerville’s road, Waibi Bush—W. Ennis & Co., £l4 la; J. Sugrue, £l3 10s (accepted); J. Fifield, £l3los. , Contract No. 300r—Shingle carting near school at Hilton—J. Sugrue, £25 10s; J. Beckley, £25 10a; J. Fifield, £l9 15a .(accepted). CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read;— From Messrs Smith, Denniatoun & Co,, giving permission to the board -to impound all stock (with the exception of their sheep) trespassing on their leasehold in the Orari riverbed, near the bridge. From Mr J. Murray, manager of the Orari station, giving permission to the board to impound all stock straying on the Orari riverbed.

From Messrs Smith, Denniatoun, and Co., requesting that Mr Thomas Markham’s name be placed on the rate roll in lieu of theirs for section No. 32524 and part of lot 36. reserve 349,. in all making 50a 2r 29p.—To be done. From Mr R. Hammond, asking permission to erect a gate between Brown’s and Williams’ section, in the Raukapuk* Bush.—Granted, provided no opposition is offered by the ratepayers within one month. From the agent to the Bank of New Zealand, covering fixed deposit receipt for £250 for three months’ interest at 3 per cent., and also stating that the amount of interest for the last twelve months, ; £ll sa, stood to the credit .of the beafd in current account. From Mr J. Hay, stating that as he understood it was the intention of the board to do away with the road, running between sections No. 19880 and 23963'en the Kakahu River, he, as mortgagee ef the sections,, objected to the same, as -it was the only outlet to the, said sections. Letter read. From Mr J. Binskin, Timaru, requesting that Mr Martin Brophy’s name be substituted for his own on the rate roll in respect of section No. 19, reserve 389, Orari.—Mr M, Brophy haying consented, the request was gra'ated, From Mr Collett, Opihi, requesilng his name to be placed bn the roll for 132 acres, between Henderson’s and MoCutcbeon l « property. ; j , ; f : i From Mr A. Maxwell and others requesting an extension of Henderson’s Road, a distance of 25 chains, to give access to 50 acres of crop.—Overseer to report. .1 i i . A circular from the Auckland Railway League was read.—lt was decided to have the same-left in the office for one/ month, so that ratepayers might have . -the opportunity of reading it and making any suggestions prior to next meeting of the board. ;■ From Mrs Tavener, Belfield, asking for a road through Mr Sugrue’s to her section No. 48! Resolved—“ That - the board considers the road putlet sufficient.” From Mr Irvine,' Peel Forest, 1 giving permission to the board to imponnd cattle straying on u- piece of land below The Orari Traffic Bridge. : | From Mr A; Foster, asking that something might be done to improve the . track ' from Sugrue’a'to Foster’s Bash; Gapes’ YaUoy. Resolved—“ That, if the. board improve the 'road; sledges’ Will hotr bo allowed to be üßed, aS is now the case." From Mr E. F. Sealey, stating that ha had 'received a notice from the board to eradicate the gorse on tho road frontiagien his seetioa, and replying that he bad already done so. He also wished to draw the attenties of the board to the fact that en the road forming the western boundary of his farm, and leading from* Hilton to Gapes’ Taller, the igdrse was spreading from Mr Foster’! fence; which not ouly extends to the centre of the road in places but actually beyond the centre, thus entailing on him an extra expense in the matter of grubbing. He submitted that it would bo neither fair nor just that he should be called upon to clear the gorse without lots of time, and bis neighbor be allowed te go scot free. —Resolved—“ That Mr Sealey be informed that legal - steps have already been taken to remedy the matter;” It was further r, solved that Mr Shier*, clerk to the boerd, be appointed generally by < the board for Iks purpose of giving orders, and notices under section 6 of the Public Works Aefc Amendment Act, 1889. . 1 GATES . S. : As instructed I have interviewed Messrs Coles and Taylor, with a view of obtain-, ing a: right-of-way through their land At Belfield, so as to give a more direct outlet to Mr Ford. Both parlies decline to sell land for the purpose at any price, the sections being already too small,—The holes in the river terrace opposite Ford’s hare been fenced off, also the deep gullies on Gould’S road.—Gorse in riverbeds j As the gorse in the riverbeds of ; the Wailli and Hae-hae-to-Moana is increasing very rapidly 1 sent a man round the riverbeds to bars it up. This hae resulted in the destruction of a very large number of young birds and eggs, and also cleared the dead gorse which' was obstructing the water course. W. Skiers, Overseer. ACCOUNTS.
