A man named Peter Key, for some years barman of the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Wellington, died suddenly early on Saturday morning. He was apparently in his usual health the preyious night. It is believed he suffered from heart disease. A public meeting of those opposed to Home Eule for Ireland was held on Friday night, at Auckland. Admission was by free ticket only. 'The chairman, Mr E. C, Bartow, explained that the step was a defensive one, owing to the visit of the Irish delegates. Amongst the speakers were Sir W, Fox, the Eev, J. Bathers and others. Eesolutions deprecating all projects for the establishment of a separate Parliament in Ireland, as detrimental to the interests of that country and, tending to the disintegration of tbe British Empire, were passed by a very large majority.
