London, Oct. 28. ; Dr Magee, Bishop of Peterborough, has created some sensation by expressing an opinion during the course of a sermon at Leicester that no Christian state, which acted in all its relations according to the precepts laid down by Christ in Hie Sermon on the Mount, would retain its independence for a week. ■ A sensation has been caused in the Free Church of Scotland over a sermon delivered by the Rev. Marcus Dods yesterday on the doctrine of the Atonement and the Divinity of Christ. The sermon has excited hostility among brother clericals, and caused the initiation of a “ heresv hunt.”
