THE LABOR TROUBLES.
FURTHER DIFFICULTIES. London, Oct. 27. • Sixty thousand workmen at Bristol have passed a resolution that the condition of labor most be materially improved, and to gain this end have determined to regularly organise their ranks. The men employed at Albert Docks have not agreed to the general compact, as they are getting higher wages than the rate agreed on, Efforts are being made to bring about a general agreement beford November 4th, Oct. 28, One hundred thousand Durham miners have intimated their intention of demanding an increase of 15 per cent in wages, and also that a week’s work, should consist of five days of seven hours each, Oct. 29, The dock companies have agreed to abolish middlemen, but themselves pay representatives to superintend the diecharge of cargoes ; the dockmen to appoint and pay gangers out of the contract price. The object of the dockmen is to gradually secure the right to contract direct with shippers. The alteration involves an annual loss of £20,000 to the dock companies. A partial strike is expected at Wapping, owing to the wharves compromise arrived at by the Mansion House Committee.
