The attention of the Auckland police having been called by Bishop Cowie to a letter which he read from two young girls, stating that they had been enticed away to Henderson, a country district, and detained there against their will, two constables were sent to inquire into circumstances. They report that the girls went to the district of their own accord. A respectable looking young #oman, named Mary Malcolm,, was committed for trial at Auckland on Wednesday, on two charges of having uttered forged orders to tradesmen for the delivery of goods. ; Wreckage consisting of a case marked 0.A., in diamond, with the wbrd Melbourne underneath; and part of the topmast of a ship, have been found on the West Coast, N.L, beach about 5 miles from Ahipara. The Bootmakers’ Union have presented Mr William White, jun., late M.H.R. for Sydenham, with an inkstand suitably inscribed, for services rendered in adjusting their difference with Toomer Bros.
